A quick recap:
At the beginning of May I went to Virginia Beach with a few friends. We "roughed it" by camping- but the campground had bathrooms and showers... two swimming pools, golf carts and evening entertainment!! Now that's my kind of camping!
I didn't swim in the ocean because the water was too cold, but I did get to spend an entire afternoon lounging on the sand, which felt divine.
Oh, and there was a monster truck competition the night we got there..... Impressive and ridiculous.
The spring semester ended with a bang with a very cool commencement ceremony on a beautiful spring day.
In early June my mom, sister and brother came to visit. We took a road trip to Michigan, which was not planned but ended up being quite cool. A few weeks later I took off for Arizona, where I had a blast reuniting with old friends, and took care of business- namely defending my dissertation.
When I got back, I packed and moved to this cool new house on campus:
I live on the second floor, which you access by the stairs on the side.
Side view of the house. You get the idea of the breathtaking views on the back-tall leafy trees, alfalfa fields, rolling hills.... Couldn't ask for more! Then, the last week of July, I took off to girls' camp. It was a blast! We have such fun, good girls. Although I had to ask them to be more quiet at night, on the whole everything went smoothly and we all had a fantastic time and bonded.
Finally, the more recent stuff.
This is a photo of my roommate, Lisa, and me. She moved in mid-August, right before school started. She is also LDS and single, teaches at the College, and we get along great. It is fun to have someone to talk to when I get home and to go places and do stuff with!

My classes are going well. I have 14 students in my Intro course, 3 in one seminar and 6 in another. You can't beat teaching at a small college! I have to say things are going a LOT better this year- I feel more comfortable, more settled in, and less stressed. A world of difference!
Last weekend was Homecoming. It was a BLAST!!! On Friday night a band composed of faculty and staff members (aptly named FaSt) performed in the dining hall, and my roommate, two neighbors and I tore up the dance floor. It was so much fun to dance after so long! On Saturday afternoon the inauguration of the new College president was held, and I participated in a small capacity in that ceremony, sharing a greeting in French (there are pictures, but the flash didn't go off and the pics turned out dark and blurry). That evening was the traditional Homecoming dinner and dance, coupled this year with the dedication of the new Fitness and Athletic Center. This is a very fancy occcasion, and it was great fun getting all dressed up. My colleagues and I again danced like there was no tomorrow (the live band was excellent- they played LOTS of 80s songs, which, as everybody knows, are the BEST to dance to). Here are some pics that give an idea just how fun the evening was.
It was a memorable evening, and we all voted to have something like it soon.... all, that is, except the people who worked so hard to plan it!
